The Delft Software Days 2011, which took place from Monday 24 October to Friday 4 November, attracted over 250 participants from 34 countries. This was the first time that Delft3D, Delft-FEWS, OpenDA, OpenEarthTools, SWAN and XBEACH users and developers met each other in Delft. It was a pleasure to organise these extensive twelve-day courses, workshops and user meetings programme, in close collaboration with the Delft University of Technology and UNESCO-IHE. We received very enthusiastic feedback about this major joint event for software products, tools and data & knowledge management systems.
Once again, the International Delft3D Users Meeting during the Delft Software Days 2011 attracted great interest. This year’s attendees had the opportunity to listen to guest speakers about “Open source: a tremendous benefit to scientists and engineers”. It also provided an opportunity to learn from the experiences of other Delft3D modellers who presented case studies and to network with fellow modellers. Furthermore, it was a great opportunity for users to provide feedback and suggestions on how they believe the Delft3D and related software should be developed. If you would like to suggest more ideas, please visit the Discussion Groups on the Delft3D open source community portal.
Please find all available presentations via our Delft Software Days 2011 website.
The next Delft Software Days will take place from 19 to 30 November 2012, in conjunction with the FLOODrisk 2012 conference to be held in Rotterdam from 20 to 22 November. More information on the Delft Software Days 2012 can be found at http://www.delftsoftwaredays.nl/ soon.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Delft Software Days 2012!
Delft Software Australia celebrates 10 years as an independent environmental and hydraulic software sales and support organisation agent for Deltares of the Netherlands, which is a recognised world leader in consulting, modelling and water related issues.
To celebrate the 10th birthday the team at Delft Software Australia (DSA) has worked tirelessly to bring a new website, with improved navigation and easy to find information and contacts. To view the new website please click here.
During the Delft Software Days 2011, Deltares offers the new 2-day Delft3D Advanced Courses, a going in-depth hands-on training, in the weekend prior to the Delft3D Users Meeting 2011.
The Delft3D Advanced Courses provide training in the latest modelling techniques and data-analysis tools for Delft3D users with basic experiences in applying Delft3D. The courses are going in-depth into a number of topics based on an A la Carte Programme.
The Delft3D Advanced Courses have a typical hands-on character. In this way the courses can be made fit-for-purpose and focus on existing model applications of the participants. In other words: Bring your own project and get on-the-job training for free! More information about the Delft3D Advanced Courses.
An item high on Deltares’ agenda is the dissemination of knowledge for use in the management of river basins and coasts. Software is one of the means by which Deltares achieves this. Deltares has over twenty years’ experience in developing scientific software. The software covers a broad range of expertise: hydrology, hydraulics, morphology and geotechnics. This year Deltares has embarked on a new strategy: open software.

The persistent monsoon rains have culminated in major flooding in Thailand in recent weeks. The waters are expected to peak in Bangkok this weekend. Last week, the Dutch embassy in Bangkok offered to place knowledge and expertise at the disposal of the Thai government.
Since last Tuesday, a representative from Deltares has been working in the crisis centre in Bangkok, advising the Thai government with the programme SOBEK about the measures that are still needed to manage the flooding and to limit the damage where possible. The Dutch expert can draw on years of experience in countries that include Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.
The Delft Software Days 2011 is being organized by Deltares in close collaboration with the Delft University of Technology and UNESCO-IHE. Mr. Chris Catalano, Australian Manager - Delft Software Australia, gave an impressive overview of the recent Delft3D and SOBEK applications from Downunder on November 23, 2009. A 150 people attended his presentation. Chris’s talk highlighted several recent flooding and coastal related projects using the software and discussed the importance of understanding the effects of climate change and how Delft3D and SOBEK are proving to be important tools to assist Australians to prepare for the future.
Mrs. Hendarti As, Director of PT-MLD, Indonesia, and Mr. Frank Hoozemans, Director of Deltares Software Centre | Delft Hydraulics, signed the software agency agreement.
“I am delighted to accept the software agency agreement on behalf of PT-MLD, to allow us to continue expanding the SOBEK, RIBASIM, HYMOS and Delft3D market in Indonesia, and to continue building on our already strong relationship with Deltares | Delft Hydraulics” Mrs. Hendarti said at the signing ceremony.
The Workshop User Interface FLOW (1D) on 15 July 2009 was very well attended, and many of those who were present expressed their satisfaction with the latest software developments. Theo Kleinendorst (Royal Haskoning): 'This is the future. Based on a very simple API example we made our own plugin in the new User Interface within just two hours time. The new software is very open and flexible and makes it very easy to import and export data between "the new SOBEK and our project database TRIWACO"'.
